Third Meditation for the Holy Week
by Rev Mario Schoenmaker
In his last Easter, and over three nights, Rev Mario led those present into the spiritual mood of Holy Week. Using the passion story from the Gospel of St Matthew he contemplated, in profoundly inspirational talks, the implications of the Easter event for the world and for each of us. This is the last of the three meditations.

‘We have for the last two nights looked at the different ways in which initiation comes about, the different tests and obstacles which are placed before us. We looked at the betrayal of Judas, the tremendous cosmic power of the Eucharist. We looked at the denial of Peter and the agony of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, and tonight I want to take you to Calvary.’ So begins this third meditation.
‘Every year in Holy Week the whole scene of Calvary and Golgotha is re-enacted in the heavens. The power released in that first century when Christ died is the same power being released year after year after year, again and again and again. I want to talk about that tonight.’ And then he reads from Matthew 27:45-50 and we are with Christ on Calvary for the three hours on the cross, the hours of darkness and of his seven last words. ‘Year after year during Holy Week, while people are unaware of the great dramatic actions happening in the heavens, Christ and the forces and the powers of the Christ are renewed in the astral and etheric levels of the earth, cleansing it, energising it, giving it new life so it may grow.’ Rev Mario concludes by telling us, ‘He walks in our midst like a light.’ If you wish to continue with a daily meditation for Holy Week, on the fourth day, Holy Thursday, the meditation is the Meditation on the Fourteen Stations of the Cross.
