Our values

We value community and brotherhood, knowing that we are stronger, richer, more perceptive, more effective when we can work together. Together the spirit is amplified.

We value devotion, the act and art of worship, of raising our hearts and minds to dwell for a time with the divine and be replenished in soul, and inspired to continue our life-path. We encourage all our members and friends to have a time of communion with their God every day.

We value creativity. Spirituality is creativity. It is the spirit expressing itself, uniting and working through our body and mind.

We value thinking. We endeavour to thoughtfully, consciously approach each situation, and also verify and know for ourselves what the spiritual teachings and principles open up to us. This is gnosis, the inner knowing and experience that no one but your own self can give you. We value learning, education, and the gaining of wisdom for we see how it enlarges the powers and capacities of the soul.

We value the ancient wisdom traditions and also know that the truth of God is marching on. We try to combine the beauty and foundation of the past with an intelligent human approach to today, and a heart for tomorrow and the future that we want to help create. We believe in evolution and want to be part of it.

Above all, we value freedom and individuality. We seek to free ourselves from our own inner limitations, narrowness and parochialism. We seek to be free of the dominance of desires, emotions and small thinking, so that we can perceive clearly and truly. We seek the freedom to explore, learn and experience, the freedom to think differently and live differently, the freedom to love and serve. We work to be free from the group consciousness of culture, from spiritual forces, from attachment, from the past. We seek the inner freedom to express the divinity within, and to come to know who we are in Christ. We seek individuality – inner unity and certainty – and to stand in our own experience and knowledge, unconflicted, independent and responsible.
