Who or What Is God?
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:17
The Old and New Testaments tell us that God has the characteristics of goodness, wisdom, truth, faithfulness, graciousness, beauty and glory. God is compassionate, merciful, mighty, all-powerful.
God created the world and God loves the world. God loves every part of the cosmos, of creation, including each one of us. And we read over and over in the Bible that God’s love is steadfast and enduring. It is always there.
The passage from John 3 tells us something else about God, possibly the most important thing: God so loved the world that he gave his only son. He sent his only begotten Son so that we could also become his spiritual offspring. That is how much we are loved.
Those who love are born of God. The power that enables us to love in this way, comes from God’s love.
God is a spiritual reality whose nature is love.
