Remembrance is not just a simple recalling of something to mind, like remembering what day it is or the phone number we are about to call. Remembrance is the activity of the spirit upon and within us. It instills wisdom, soothes troubled hearts, brings peace.
Remembrance is, in fact, an act of invocation. It calls into being again, now, the life and spirit as it was before. What was, or the power and effects of what was, is made present and active again now.
We also have an experience and an understanding of the true nature of remembrance from our participation in the Mass, in particular the act of Consecration. We bless and share bread and wine in thanksgiving and in remembrance.
