The Agapē is a simple and informal devotional service inspired by the last supper Jesus Christ celebrated with his disciples. It involves sharing bread and wine in an awareness of the presence of Christ.
The word agapē is an ancient Greek word which means love. It has come to signify divine love and also our response of reaching out in love to the divine. It is a love that is beyond personality and bonds of blood and culture. A spiritual love. This is the love we bring to mind whenever we participate in the ‘Agapē’. It is a celebration of divine love and a re-living of that night when Christ sat with his disciples prior to his arrest and crucifixion, a night in which he gave himself to them, and bound them to himself with bonds unbreakable. This small book provides an outline of the essential and optional elements of conducting an Agapē, and suggests prayers, readings and songs that may be used.
