About Max
Rev Dr Max Clayton (1935-2013) was a Doctor of Divinity specialising in pastoral care, a psychotherapist and co-founder and director of the Australian College of Psychodrama and an ordained priest of Rosa Veritas (formerly known as the Independent Church of Australia) from his ordination in 1984 until his death in 2013. Max worked around the world as a counsellor and trainer and assisted people to discover new ways of being.

Renewed Dedication and Triumphant Perseverance And I want this to be a time of renewal and dedication for you too. In other words, a lot of things have to be given up by all of us. Old anxieties, old fears, that prevent the flow of our life spirit; narrow or irrelevant ways of thinking, reliance on intellect or narcissistic preoccupations, which I’m very prone to. Towards Becoming Unified That is the requirement of you. You are here to take account of everything that’s occurring in front of you, moment by moment. And we are to devote ourselves to each other moment by moment and be willing to give something of ourselves when we meet one another. Building on the Foundation In this work to bring about the transformation of our being we in fact love the person who teaches us and take into ourselves the spirit of that teacher. When we absorb the spirit of the teacher an experience comes into being that gives us inspiration, direction and strength. Love of the teacher is needed. Without it we do not develop into whole people. Love of the teacher fills us so that we do not feel empty or directionless. Make a Practice of Living in the Light Each one of you must have lived through experiences of isolation, loss of meaning, despair, and your share of suffering. Most likely you have sought to avoid suffering. Perhaps you have seen suffering as an enemy. I imagine you have also seen yourself grow and develop through suffering and have been coming to accept it as part of your life. Making a Good Life The making of a good life is a subject that is very near to each one of you. You have developed your own personal lifestyle in response to the world around you. Most likely you have been developing conclusions that are satisfying for you. Yet there is the continued longing for the greater refinement of self. This morning I hope you won’t mind considering a few principles that have to do with making a good life. VOLUME 2 | THE MEDITATIONS The Spirit of Mary The spirit of Mary is timeless, an eternal spirit, that can enlarge our being, enlarge our experience and make us able to respond in any situation. Over and over again, there are the seemingly unchangeable situations. These stuck situations call for a new response. The spirit of Mary assists you to be aware of the abilities that you have developed that may have been lying dormant in the background and to see that there is more to you than what your mind knows about. The Song of the Angels You are not satisfied with the views of life that you have previously held. You think that there is more to life than what you already know about. This is the spirit that constantly works to lift you into another realm. It relates to the whole universe. It knows who you are, and why you are here and reminds you to continue on against all odds. It is not satisfied until all of your assigned work has been accomplished. Decision Time Each time you make a decision to act honourably there is a release of energy. Every act of love you make is accompanied by a renewal of vitality. On every occasion when you live with honour or live with love you are becoming unified within yourself, you are becoming whole. Life Without Reservations The quiet soul responds to whatever speaks of the reality of life. The quiet soul, the soul that is free of concern about the meaning of life, the soul that does not strive to solve the mysteries of life in a brief moment of time, the soul that is not threatened by the storm clouds, that is not compressed by fear … Is there such a soul in this world? Is it possible to be still and to comprehend what is real? Healer of Souls Know that in the darkest moment when all your efforts have failed, when all strength has gone, all is definitely not lost. Know that something extra has been given to you. Not an ordinary reality, but nevertheless, a reality. In the Light In your everyday life you meet all kinds of people. Some are sensitive, flexible, receptive. You are in the presence of a heart of flesh. Others argue, fight, harden themselves. You may be in the presence of a heart of stone. Many people in this situation have felt a sense of defeat. And defeat has turned into despair. Your mind may wonder whether you are fated to always be this way. But there is a reality that brings light into our being and causes a sensitive, thoughtful heart to be the very centre of our being. Being Still Stillness is a requirement for good living, a pre-requisite for developing a genuinely new idea, a precursor to the creation of a fresh outlook on life, a beginning of new solutions to problems of living. VOLUME 3 | THE ARTICLES The purpose of this writing is to act as a stimulus to your reading of history and to looking for the spiritual significance of the outward events of our time, as well as a stimulus to creating a greater sense of meaning in your own life. The purpose of the writing is also to reaffirm the fact that there are many forces that have been unleashed into our world such that we must continue to strengthen our resolve to not be anxious. Rather we must continue with those practices that awaken us to the real spiritual power that is available to us. Breaking New Ground – Signs of the Age of the Consciousness Soul The consciousness soul is an explosive force arising from within a human being. It is a life-giving impulse. It is an inner awakening. It is a ‘becoming’ force that works to make life on this earth better and greater and that always starts within the mind and heart of individuals. Vital Relationships What is a vital relationship? It is the experience of an energetic life force, of feeling rising into consciousness, of ideas germinating. What will assist in the development of relationships that are satisfying? And what attitudes or actions are going to assist the other people we meet to achieve satisfaction in their relationship? To assist in exploring these questions I will present examples of relationships and seek to draw out some of the principles that are being lived out in these relationships. Pioneers and Leaders in Action In the course of human history countless numbers of people have contributed to the welfare of nations and individuals. Part of our work is to open our minds to these great pioneers and leaders, to make the effort to see and feel about the vision they had, the preparations they made, and the dedication they displayed. Here is a goldmine, an essential source of inspiration for us.
