In the Beginning with God | Series 1 | eBOOK
Rev Mario Schoenmaker's Reflections
on the Prologue of the Gospel of St John
‘In the beginning was the Word’ … Many of us are familiar with the opening verses of the Gospel of St John. We use them daily or weekly, as advised by Rev Mario. It is an ancient song the Essenes chanted at sunrise and sunset to open the way for the incarnating Christ.
This song was used by St John to convey to us that the incarnation of Christ was a divine happening, set in motion at the very beginning of time.
The nature of the Logos being, the gifts he brings to the world and to humanity, the opportunities for us to become children of God, all this is told in a way that is universal and non-sectarian. But, John says, not all recognised, received or believed in the presence of this divine being in our midst.
Series 1 was originally published as a monthly email subscription from November 2018 to August 2019.
The Prologue is a piece of scripture that can be understood cosmically and mystically; it can be understood in terms of human evolution, and also in terms of the unfolding of our own I AM, how that will be met at times, and how it is expressed.
It was a favourite passage for Rev Mario to reflect on. Over his life he gave at least 24 public discourses, meditations, addresses or lectures on this passage. It is from these that this monthly subscription is drawn. Some are lectures, some are addresses from different types of services or meditations, and so they vary in length and tone. Some are devotional; some are educational. All serve to give us a way to approach this profound meditation on the creativity of the divine.
