A contemplation by Reverend Mario Schoenmaker
In this contemplation we hear Rev Mario Schoenmaker reflecting on the Crucifixion as it is portrayed by St Luke. This gospel speaks to our heart and feelings and reveals to us the power of Christ's love. Through St Luke we are given an inkling of what this sacrificial power has brought about and we are drawn inward to find in ourselves that love that can lay down its life for its friends.

The four gospels were composed out of spiritual revelation, each one speaking its own language, each one with its own special effect. They give us different insights into the diamond of Christ’s life and deed. If you read the four gospels and take them together you will find that they harmonise to make a full portrait of Christ.
In reflecting on the Mystery of Golgotha as portrayed by St Luke, Rev Mario focuses on the meekness of Jesus Christ and reminds us that it is the meek who shall inherit the earth. Life itself is a crucifixion. It is the cross that we cannot escape from and must bear. It is only through the full acceptance of life that we can attain the resurrection. In this contemplation we are pointed to the key role that our will plays in our ability to surrender and accept. This contemplation was given during a series of meetings entitled “Search for God”. For a number of years, a small group of people met on Wednesday mornings to search for God. These were reflective, prayerful meetings, exploring the deeper meaning of scripture. During these meetings, Rev Mario contemplated many sacred texts of the New Testament. This meeting took place during Holy Week 1976.
