to the Daily Lent Meditations

​Lent – the forty-day season of preparation for the spiritual festival of Easter – is a long retreat whereby we are led into the practice of a more Christ-like life.

​Lent is a season of spiritual development. As we prepare for the celebration of the Easter mystery, we are united in spirit with everyone who prepares in soul for this event. Through this act of unity in prayer, devotion and meditation, our spiritual development goes hand in hand with the growth of all souls towards this final goal.

​During the season of Lent, people everywhere – those who want Christ as their leader, ruler, king and above all as their soul-companion – with renewed effort take up the struggle against evil and against the evil one. We must discipline ourselves in such a way that we may be able to combat that which takes us away from our true selves, the Christ within us, so that in the finality we may know the secret source from which all may draw, which is hidden within the mysteries of Golgotha and Easter. The season of Lent is eminently suited to bring us to a knowledge of this source of divine life, and through this knowledge we shall be able to continue our journey towards the heavens.

The meditations have a dual function. They point to Christ as the Cosmic redeemer and the great I AM, and also to the I AM within our own hearts and souls. The constant reiteration within these meditations is a reflection of what St Paul sang about: “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27b).
