Online creative workshop (via Zoom) ... Creating your own
Paschal CandleAn easy step-by-step guide to carving and painting your own Paschal Candle for the spiritual festival of Easter.
In Rosa Veritas we celebrate the ‘Veneration of the Light’ on the eve of Easter Sunday. During this service a new altar is dressed, and a Paschal Candle is blessed and lit, representing the new light of the risen Christ. The Paschal Candle is lit for all services and devotional times throughout the 'mystical interval'.
For at least 15 years, Karen Smith has carved and painted the Paschal Candle for the altar of RV in Adelaide. With Easter services held online last year, she held a workshop in Adelaide, assisting members to carve and paint candles for their personal altars. In this workshop, Karen will introduce the history and meaning of the Paschal Candle and the Veneration of the Light service. She will then demonstrate each step in making of your own candle, and you’ll have a chance to follow along and practice. Detailed instructions and access to a video recording will be available after each session, so that you can complete your candle, or make another, in your own time. It is hoped that at the completion of this workshop, you will not only be able to create your own Paschal Candle for use in your devotional activities this Easter, but that you may also engage more deeply with the symbols and meaning of the Paschal Candle, the Veneration of the Light service, and the Rosa Veritas mandala. On enrolment, participants will be provided with a materials list, and will need to gather their own materials and tools for use in the workshop. It is estimated materials will cost from $25, depending on what you may already have on hand. COURSE OUTLINE
