Online creative workshop (via Zoom) with Karen Smith ...
Rose Candle WorkshopA step-by-step guide to carving and painting your own unique candle with the image of a rose.
Create a rose candle for use in your home, your devotions, your study, or as a gift. For those studying OMC, a rose candle is lit during meetings and study as a symbol of the awakened faculties we bring to the task.
The rose is a long-recognised symbol of the unfolding of our true human potential, as well as being a name for Christ who is the essence and cause of our true spiritual beingness.
rosaveritas.org/our-name As well as creating a unique rose candle, this will be an opportunity to express your creativity in fellowship with others. No prior skills required!
This workshop will include some teaching about the symbolism of the rose, and a short meditation on what is moving and unfolding within you, before choosing the style and colour of your image. Karen will demonstrate each step in making of your own candle, and you’ll have a chance to follow along and practice. Detailed instructions and a video will be available after each session, so that you can complete your candle, or make another, in your own time. It is hoped that at the completion of this workshop, you will not only be able to create your own rose candle, but that you may also engage more deeply with the meaning of the rose. Participants will be provided with a materials list, and will need to gather their own materials and tools for use in the workshop (estimated materials cost around $25, depending on what you may already have on hand). COURSE OUTLINE
First Session
For at least 15 years, Karen has carved and painted the Paschal Candle for the altar of Rosa Veritas in Adelaide. She has held workshops with the community in Adelaide, assisting members to carve and paint Paschal and rose candles, and conducted a previous workshop over Zoom earlier this year.
You can choose to join either the morning or afternoon group, each of two sessions. There are limited places available in each group to ensure personal attention can be given to each participant.
