A prayer for all creation

We are mindful, O God, of the mighty fires raging in Australia. At the creation, you bestowed on humankind both the privilege and responsibility of stewardship of your creation — to work with and care for your creation — the animal, plant and mineral kingdoms. Assist us now to perceive ever more clearly that all creation is your divine spirit made manifest.

Open us to this work of caring for all creation. Assist us to grow in our ability to be good stewards. For we know that it is not just humankind, but all your creation, that waits in eager longing for liberation from bondage and adoption as your offspring.

We offer and present to you all who have died, breaking through the cycle of time into the boundlessness of eternity; all who have been burned and injured; all who have lost homes; all in need, sorrow, and pain. Renew your spirit, O Lord, in their physical and finer natures,  and grant the joy of your presence to grow within them.

We offer and present to you the all emergency, health and welfare workers; those caring for the sick and dying; those who have been bereaved; those made homeless; all affected in some way by the fires — may the power of your mighty spirit comfort and sustain them, empowering them to rise like phoenixes from the ashes.

So shall it be.
