Spiritual Care of Your Soul
by Rev Mario Schoenmaker
Evolution demands that we become more and more conscious of the powers and potentials that lie within us. The beauty of the rose is that it points us exactly towards this. If you need to acknowledge that life has become barren, a dry wilderness, and that you need to re-connect with the true beauty and glory of your real self, then you will find exactly what you need in these discourses

The rose is a symbol of Christ and also a symbol of the full flowering of our potentials. Using Isaiah 35 and I Corinthians 15 as inspiration, Rev Mario speaks about the rose Christ has planted in our soul, and gives us direction for the nurture and care of our inner rose.
1. Devotion to the Inner Rose The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the rose it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty of our God. (Isaiah 35) In the year of the Blooming of the Year, a new festival and celebration was inaugurated within The Centre. It was called Rose Sunday and it has become a much loved celebration over the years; a time to celebrate and see what is right and beautiful and good within each one of us. Each person brings a rose, a symbol of themselves, and places this upon the altar – dedicating themselves to its unfoldment. This address was given on the very first Rose Sunday and it sets out how we can nurture and care for this inner rose, so that what is possible for us through the spirit of Christ within our souls may become beautifully apparent to all. When, within yourself, you feel that crying, that weeping of the soul, that feeling of bondage, that knowledge that you cannot escape from that which is placed before you, then that indicates that the soul, in essence, is longing for a greater freedom, a greater manifestation of that which is ready to blossom within your being. The rose symbolizes what we as soul beings may become through the power of Christ, through the power of his spirit and through the power of love which has been abundantly bestowed upon us through the living Christ. As ages march on, the meaning of the rose to us will become deeper and more profound. 2. Principles of Blooming This address was given during the Year of the Blooming of the Rose, and its theme is to “Hold fast to that which is good.” The blooming of the inner rose is connected with the enlarging of the real inner self, the growth of our being, and the expression of our creative intent and love. The blooming of the rose is an inner process which cannot be hurried. Can you hurry the process of a rose? All you can do is plant a rose and tend it with as much love and care as you possibly can. You have to wait for it to bloom and open its petals. So, also, you must do with yourself. Do not become tense or anxious, for these are things which are foreign to the Christ Spirit working within you. As the rose bud enjoys every moment of the day, be it sunshine, hail, rain or storm, and silently works within the darkness of its stem, so you too must be relaxed and let the Gods work within your being. Take care of yourself, and attend to those attitudes and disciplines necessary to make your rose bloom, but remember, you cannot make this happen. What you can do is hold fast to that which is good.
