St John’s Tide is a moment of acceptance and commitment to embrace and embody what is being bestowed and breathed into us. To make this a part of our essential nature and being. And to transition from receiving the gifts from the heavens to us, and now becoming givers, bestowers, manifesters of our inner fruitfulness to the world around us.
Three approaches are presented that we may choose to engage with – to work with (as is fitting at St John’s Tide) – to deepen and strengthen our understanding and ability:
- an image of St John’s Tide revealed in an altar frontal designed by Rev Mario Schoenmaker;
- 'word pictures' of the I AM and our emergent I AMness given in the John’s Gospel that demonstrate truths about the I AM and how it works within us; and
- a painting by New Zealand artist Colin McCahon, Light falling through a dark landscape, focusing attention on the connection between heaven and earth and our relationship to this.
