from the Pentecost Mass

In Genesis, God the Father breathes life into the human being … creation. In John’s Gospel, Christ breathes renewing life into humanity … redemption. And in the Act’s, the Holy Spirit breathes life into us … empowerment. We are filled with the spirit of life.
Pentecost is a story of fluidity … flow. It speaks of the flow of spirit, and the fluidity this enables within us as we respond to the spirit and embody and enact its promptings.
Through Christ’s action in the Easter mysteries, his living spirit flows … it flows into the earth and is released into the atmosphere that surrounds and enfolds us. Christ bequeaths this spirit to us, that he may become an abiding presence in the human heart and consciousness.
Through the Pentecost experience, that living spirit is breathed into us, flows into us. We are empowered and enabled through this inflow of spirit. Christ’s living presence is no longer only an external force; increasingly, it is becoming an indwelling reality. And we are equipped to carry this presence within us and to allow it to flow from us into the world, to all with whom we come in contact.
