Rev Robert John’s address
from the Easter Sunday Mass
20 April 2025
A reflection on the Easter Sunday experience in the garden of resurrection and the nature of the Mystical Interval.
It is of cosmic significance that Christ was raised from the dead, and the power of his resurrection unleashed upon this world and within humanity. But the Easter mysteries are only complete when each one of us is also resurrected, raised up into newness and fullness of life. We, too, must be able to proclaim: “I have risen!” Or, perhaps more accurately: “The I AM has risen up within me! I am filled with newness and fullness of life!”
This is the challenge of balancing rejoicing and celebrating with the tenderness and vulnerability of spiritual encounter … honouring the profound cosmic drama, and balancing this with our own inner personal experience. Both constitute the Easter Mysteries: what was accomplished by Christ 2,000 years ago, once for all; as well as our own experience of these mysteries this Easter, and the part we play in realising the fullness of that cosmic event within our own development, as well as in human evolutionary unfolding.
