Source of All Being Improvisations
Piano music for meditation and contemplation
Sue Robinson
Improvisations emerging from contemplation on the new melody for ‘Source of All Being’, these five piano reflections composed and played by Sue Robinson are a wonderful accompaniment and stimulus for meditation.
The improvisations:
1. A walk in the sunshine (5:40)
2. Beholding the dance of the stars (5:33)
3. A conversation with the heavens (6:38)
4. Tenderness of the soul and the stars (7:08)
5. Journey to the Source (7:24)
Sue writes …
These five Improvisations came about through a request to compose a ‘reflection or fantasia’ beginning with the music I composed for the song ‘Source of All Being’, to be used during a spiritual retreat. I began to record everything I tried, and here are the results.
Each one begins with this tune and I improvised the rest of the music. I began by letting myself imagine and feel the images of the song and be playful about expressing this on the piano. I became gradually more confident. The titles came later as I slowly got to know what I had created, a new and interesting experience. Listeners may well have different pictures, and I hope that you will enjoy the images that come to you.
These recordings have been used for contemplation and meditation. I have sometimes found the pieces useful as a springboard. I find that the arrival at the end of each one sometimes assists me to extend my meditation after they finish, so I suggest this could be another way of using them.

Here’s the text for the song which inspired Sue’s melody and these improvisations …
SOURCE OF ALL BEING
Source of all being, fire of love,
Your glory flames through worlds above:
Centre and light of every sphere,
Yet to each loving heart how near.
Sun of our life, your quickening ray
Sheds on our path the glow of day;
Star of our hope, your softened light
Cheers the long watches of the night.
Source of all life, below, above,
Whose light is truth, whose warmth is love,
Through us this glorious light be known
Until its lustre is our own.
Grant us your truth to make us free,
And hearts that burn with constancy,
Till all your living altars claim
One holy light, one heavenly flame.
