The Exhilarating Spirit | BOOK
Exhilarating, transforming, life-giving spirit
by Robert John
Reflections on the theme “the exhilarating spirit” from Easter 2010 at The Centre community in Melbourne. This exhilarating, transforming, life-giving spirit is both the spirit of Christ unleashed into the cosmos, our world and humanity through Christ’s actions in the Easter mysteries, and the I AM in us which is available to us as a fruit of those mysteries

Rev Robert John’s Holy Week and Easter addresses (included in this booklet as notes, and as fuller texts for the two Sunday addresses) are reflections on the theme in the light of chapters 5 and 6 of Paul’s Letter to the Romans. Of particular interest for is Paul’s assertion that if we have died and been buried with Christ through baptism, then we will surely also rise with Christ into newness and fullness of life.
These addresses also draw on poetry, prayer and song to amplify and enrich contemplation of the theme: the exhilarating Christ. Of special relevance is the traditional Love Divine, as well as the contemporary song Come and Be Filled which has both a Eucharistic and a Paschal focus and celebrates Christ’s transforming spirit permeating our blood stream.
Come and be filled as you sit at my table,
Quenching your thirst as you drink of my wine,
Bringing the mem’ry of my dying and rising,
Into your blood stream which is mingled with mine.
The Easter mysteries realised the fulfilment of the incarnation of divine love, Christ Jesus, in human form, unleashing the transformative power of spirit whereby we each may become a new creation. As we work to achieve this transformation within us, this resurrection of our being, we work with Christ to finish the new creation, and with him are changed from glory into glory: his exhilarating spirit lives in us!
