Rev Robert John
An address from the Palm Sunday Mystical Cosmic Mass
Rosa Veritas Community in Melbourne, 24 March 2024
Mary anointing Christ’s feet with costly oil establishes the tone and intent for Christ’s Palm Sunday entry into Jerusalem. Similarly, Christ washing the disciples’ feet establishes the tone and intent for his crucifixion on Good Friday.
We are inclined to think Mary anointed Christ’s feet with precious oil one day, and then the next day (a day later) Christ enters Jerusalem riding on a young donkey. The culture and consciousness in which John’s gospel was written and first understood did not think this way though. In the Jewish culture of the time, a day commences at sunset and concludes the following sunset. They understood that what occurred in the evening (the start of the new day) established the tone and direction for what followed in the active daylight hours.
In the unfolding of this day, Palm Sunday, as revealed to us through John’s Gospel we witness:
- a consecration to divine purpose;
- engagement in loving service;
- living and acting in the quiet authority of the I AM; and
- acceptance and surrender to that which enables the fulfilment of divine purpose.
As we each enter into this Holy Week, may we do so with a sense of embracing ever more fully our purpose and destiny: the integration of our I AMness within our being and the revelation of the Christ in us, our hope and our glory.
In this surrendering to spiritual purpose we embrace the majesty and strength of our I AM, the divine within, and something of the resurrection glory is enabled to begin shining within the contours of our being.
